Prom Photo Recap

Happy Sunday y'all! I am so exhausted because last night was my senior prom!

I went with one of my friends from work and had such a great night. Somehow he managed to be just as silly of a dancer as I was, I didn't think that was possible!

I had the best possible group, we had so much fun, and not to mention were the best looking group there (or so we thought).

We all hung out together with our parents before at my friend Atlanta's house where we took photos!

I loved the dress that I chose because it was not a typical prom dress! It's actually a silk maxi dress from Anthropologie but I dressed it up with a statement necklace to look more formal for prom!

My friends all looked so beautiful and I was happy I got to spend my senior prom with them!

I am so blessed by these two!

These are the lovely ladies that my date & I sat with along with their dates for dinner and the rest of the evening at prom!

Overall I had such a great time and it was a night I will remember for years to come! I have actually been to prom four times (at my school you are only supposed to go twice - junior and senior year) and I think that this year was possibly my favorite yet.

Hope you all have a great rest of your weekend, and happy Mothers Day to all the mommas out there!

Weekend Recap

Hey y'all!
As you are reading this I am probably taking my AP Calculus exam, so if you think to say a little prayer for me it would be much appreciated!

As promised in yesterday's post, here is a recap of my weekend! It was my last weekend of high school and honestly, one of the best.

Every year there is a music and art festival where I live called Sunfest and it is so much fun! They always have a great lineup of artists, fun vendors selling tropical clothing, accessories, and housewares, and of course tons of art! They shut down the road that runs along the waterfront in West Palm Beach so it is the most beautiful location you could ever imagine.

This year I went 3 out of the 5 days (a new personal record) and I had the best time! Thursday night I went after school with some friends and we saw Aer (I hadn't heard of them before, but they were so good! I highly recommend checking them out!), Sublime, Robin Thicke, and Sky Blue from LMFAO. All in all a great mix of music! Unfortunately I don't have any good photos of my outfit from that night but I wore a white ruffled tank from J.Crew with red shorts that had lace trim. My friends and I all had a sleepover after which was so fun to do on a school night!

On Friday night the only person I saw was J.Cole, and while I have never been the biggest fan of his I still had so much fun because about 20 friends from school all went and we hungout together and had a blast! The most interesting aspect of the evening by far was my clothing. It was entirely uncharacteristic for me but I fit right in with the sunfest crowd! After some encouragement {ok, maybe some intense persuasion} by my friends I ended up wearing ripped up denim shorts with a white tshirt and converse. Totally not my typical look, and I actually had to borrow the converse from a friend... further evidence that it's not the way I usually dress. But like I said, I fit right in at the festival so all was well!

Sunday was my favorite day by far. Ellie Goulding was playing at night and I have always loved her music. Somehow she sounded even better live than on the radio which is very unusual these days! I wore pineapple pom pom shorts which I loved and got tons of compliments on!

How cute are they?! Incase you missed it, I posted this photo on Instagram on Sunday.

Overall, it was a great way to spend my last weekend before high school is over and I know that the memories I made are ones that I'll cherish for years to come! Sometimes it is fun to do something you wouldn't typically do {like go to a music festival for 3 days} and even dress a bit different than you typically do. As long as you have fab friends by your side and you have lots of fun, it was not a wasted weekend for sure!

I hope y'all have a fab rest of your week!

Worth Your Time

Happy Tuesday Y'all!

I had the most amazing weekend {recap on the way tomorrow} and I am so excited but sad at the same time to be in my last week of high school! Friday is my last official day, but I have to go in for AP exams two days next week still. I'm glad to be finished with all the work but sad to be leaving the school I've called home for 14 years now.

I stumbled upon this video yesterday and frankly I found it to be dramatically changing as far as the way I think. Quite some time ago I was told by someone that I cared about that perhaps I'm missing out on life because I'm too caught up in my cell phone. I laughed and just thought they didn't understand because they did not use social media as much as I did. But then a few months after I began to realize that the moments I cherished most from life never included my cell phone or a computer or even a tv. They were moments that were just me with other people, being human. Being silly, being serious, being sad, being joyful, whatever it may have been... we were fully in the moment. That is something that doesn't occur too often nowadays thanks to social media and technology. Even private moments must be tweeted, posted, and shared. I am the first person to do this, I find myself tweeting something funny my dad says while at family dinner so that all my friends can laugh along. But I can't help but think of a time when the only people who laughed were those that were there, and it was somehow ok.

I have tried, especially during my senior year, to be in the moment. Social media and technology are fun and are a great way to connect when used properly, but they shouldn't be a major element of your life. I am always making a conscious effort to put my phone away while at dinner with someone and I avoid posting photos from an event until I'm home so I don't miss a single second of what there is to be experienced around me.

This video says a lot of that in a way that is very thought-provoking. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I never missed something because I was talking on the phone or texting. How much better would my grades be and how many more friends would I have? Would I be a happier person, more successful in life? It's most definitely something to think about. I think it's important to enjoy technology as an element of your life which you are the owner of, rather than letting your smartphones and computers own you.

I hope that you enjoyed the video and that it made you think about how much of a presence technology may have in you life. I know it was a reminder I very much needed. With a week left of high school, and one summer left at home before college, I think my iPhone should perhaps stay in my pocket a bit more than usual. I'll still take photos and blog about my experiences, but I think that maybe people don't need to hear about every thought that runs through my head or every moment that I experience, some are meant to just be enjoyed at the time and in the moment.

XO,
